a taste of britain

Comfortably nestled in a lovely nook at The Shops at Eagle Village in Wayne Pennsylvania, you will find A Taste Of Britian. This cafe and tea house has made the village its new home, and what a perfect location it is. Here you will find a dining experience that is delicious in every way. Yummy tea sandwiches, fresh salads, heart warming soups, flaky scones and tea, glorious tea await your arrival. Did I forget dessert? No, and neither will you!

My goal was to make the interiors as scrumptious as the food. In order to do that, I needed to come up with the perfect recipe. Owner Tara Buzan did not want a predictable stuffy tea shop. She asked me to design a space that would be a "warm, eclectic, unique little jewel" of a restaurant that is a reflection of her menu and vision. While doing much research on British style, I decided to gather ingredients from those wonderful British personality traits we know and love. I spoke with English folks of all ages and there were several common threads. "Strong character, definite opinions, keen sense of humor, style conscious, a little traditional as well as forward thinking" made the cut
along with that very "cheeky" element, so unique! Surely, your next visit
will take you on a winding path of discovery as you enjoy a pot of tea with someone you love.

As the design concept was formed and continued to develop, the recipe just got better and better. It was very important to be conscious of environmental issues, as well as supporting our local economy. The tables were a design collaboration of Environments H.C. and local furniture artist Bryce Ritter. Bryce used recycled antique wood on many table tops, and the result is wonderful. Local artist Mario Manzonni was commissioned to do three paintings for our walls. The compositions were developed using authentic antique items, and Mario made the most beautiful pieces! Nancy Evers, a well-known local artist was also commissioned to do a special treatment on the banquette that is a wonderful addition to the room. As always, the use of antiques is my favorite way to recycle, and local antique dealers were always happy to see
me walk in the door.

There are many authentic British items in the cafe that contribute to the overall lovliness. Cornish Blue pottery, vintage English stoneware, antique English china, Snow and Graham custom paper Graham and Brown canvas art studio, not to mention the vintage royal photographs are some of these elements. Whether you find yourself sitting in the main dining room, or the "royal pantry", every table offers interest, warmth and enjoyment.
